With The Final Destination, the fourth film in the popular franchise, horror fans will get an especially vivid thrill ride, as death is now in 3-D.

On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O’Bannon (Bobby Campo) has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. Nick then panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori (Shantel VanSanten), and their friends, Janet (Haley Webb) and Hunt (Nick Zano), to leave mere seconds before his frightening vision becomes a terrible reality.

Thinking they’ve cheated death, the group believes they’ve been given a second chance, until Nick’s premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die, one by one. Nick soon realizes that he must figure out how to escape death before it’s too late.

You’ve probably lived this. You and your date go out with another couple and head for some fun attraction like an amusement park or a race. It’s exciting and an adrenalin rush. But, what if something went terribly wrong? What if the roller coaster went off the tracks or the race cars jumped the protective fence? We sat down with two “couples” from the film to find out their scariest moments while filming, what they would do if death were stalking them, what it was like working in 3-D, doing some crazy stunts and actually having fun midst the crazy kills and gore. Good times!

Here’s a new video interview with Shantel and her co-stars about The Final Destination, thanks to ShockTillYouDrop.com.

The Final Destination introduces audiences to Shantel VanSanten and Haley Webb, but don’t get too attached to them. You know how a Final Destination is going to go. VanSanten tried to overcome her fears by learning how the film was made.

“What’s funny is I’m always given these horror movies and they come across my way and I don’t ever watch them,” VanSanten said. “I feel like sometimes maybe that’s why, because I really am freaked out by them. I tried to look at when they’d do the prosthetics or cuts and blood and dangling flesh from me. I tried to look at it as okay, this is their job so tell me how you do it. More like a technical way. Then I would think it was cool but I don’t do well with gory films at all.”

When it came time to shoot a sequence on a mall escalator, the world of the film overcame VanSanten. “For me, it’s not something you can really look forward to and it’s not something that I found myself trying to figure out how to prepare. It’s a circumstance that not a lot of people, you think about but not a lot of people ever go through in their lifetime hopefully. So I’m sitting there asking myself like how would I react? What would I do? What would I be thinking? As much as I could preplan or think about it, we got into the scene one day and he goes to hold onto my hand, I put my head down and just lost it. We were actually shooting in a mall that was abandoned in New Orleans and we’re three stories up. Even though I’m in a harness, there’s so much that the movie teaches you that can go wrong that you’re just like oh my God. You think about your own mortality and your own life, and you’re like, ‘What if my dad never sees me get married? What if I die right now?’ You’re faced with that so much, it felt like you sometimes didn’t need to prepare because that pure adrenaline and the actual circumstances you were in when you were shooting were enough. It was pretty brutal. Even when I watched it, there was so much emotion for me in that scene.”

Shantel VanSanten plays Nick’s girlfriend, Lori Milligan, who is no damsel in distress. “Lori is strong,” she says. “She supports Nick through these terrible visions that he’s having and tries to help him figure out the pattern so they can save the others and themselves.”

Prior to taking on the role, the actress had never seen any of the “Final Destination” films. “I’m a big scaredy cat,” VanSanten confesses. “Most of the time when I watch scary movies, I cover my eyes and leave just a little space between my fingers to look through.” Nevertheless, she can appreciate the distinct appeal of this particular series. “There’s a mystery here—Death is seeking out certain people, and you don’t know exactly why, or how it’s going to happen, or in what order. So there’s an element of surprise that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time thinking, ‘Is this person going to die? Is it his time?’”

“It’s like solving a puzzle,” relates VanSanten. “We’re trying to figure out the logic in Death’s plan and convince those on his list that he’s coming for them. But to unravel the pattern of who’s going to get killed next and to get there before it’s too late…it’s a race against time.”

Shantel VanSanten says, “Sometimes now I’ll wonder, ‘If I hit that pencil on the desk, and if it rolls off into the floor, will it hit that board and come smack me in the face?’ I’ll think about random series of events now when I see something that may not look at all dangerous, how it could possibly kill me,” she laughs. “Because these are everyday moments that they portray in the movies…and you never know. That’s what freaks people out.”

Here are two new TV spots for The Final Destination, coming out August 28th! Krista Allen, Nick Zano, Jenna Craig, Shantel VanSanten, Richard T. Jones and Billy Slaughter star in the film, which will follow a group of people who survive a tragic accident and are consequently tracked down by the evil forces of Death itself.
